A debt collector is calling me 10 times a day. What are my rights?
I owe money on an old store account. A collections company has been calling me non-stop — early mornings, late nights, even on weekends. Is this legal?

No, this is not legal. Under the National Credit Act and the Debt Collectors Act, collectors cannot contact you at unreasonable times, use harassment tactics, or make false statements. Write them a formal letter demanding they only contact you in writing. Report them to the Council for Debt Collectors and the NCR. Also check if the debt may be prescribed — debts over 3 years old where you haven't acknowledged in writing may no longer be enforceable.
