My employer fired me without a hearing. What can I do?
I worked at a logistics company for 6 years. Last week my manager called me in and said they're terminating me effective immediately. No warning letters, no hearing. I have a family to support.

This sounds like a procedurally and possibly substantively unfair dismissal. Under the LRA, your employer must follow a fair procedure — including a disciplinary hearing where you can state your case. Dismissal without a hearing is almost always procedurally unfair. You have 30 days from your last day of employment to refer a dispute to the CCMA. Don't miss that deadline.

Gather all evidence now: payslips, employment contract, any written communications. At the CCMA you can represent yourself, but given 6 years of service you should seriously consider an attorney — potential compensation can be up to 12 months' salary for an unfair dismissal.

I went through a similar situation. I used Legal Aid and filed within the 30-day window. We won and I received 10 months' compensation. There is hope — don't give up.
