Katherine completed her BA LLB at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban and joined MacRobert Attorneys in 2001. She holds a Certificate in Medical Law (University of South Africa), a Certificate in Corporate Law (Law Society of South Africa) and is a Notary Public. She became a director of MacRobert in 2008 where she has been involved in corporate law and civil litigation, with over eighteen years’ experience of defendant practice in the specialised area of professional indemnity law, particularly as it pertains to medical practitioners. This includes high value and complex claims such as spina bifida and cerebral palsy cases and the quantification thereof. She has also been involved in managing regulatory and disciplinary matters, High Court reviews and appeals, complex inquest cases involving multiple practitioners, and criminal trials including culpable homicide against medical practitioners. She is frequently involved in researching and preparing advices on a variety of topics and concerns to medical practitioners, including general aspects of medical litigation, ethical questions and healthcare issues. Katherine has also, from time to time, been invited to give presentations to interested groups on medico-legal issues, and has written articles for various publications.
