Gerrit is a director in the Litigation Department at Van der Spuy & Partners where he provides civil litigation services to both corporate and private clients. He litigates in the Magistrate’s Court as well as the High Court and specialises in contractual disputes, delictual claims, medical negligence claims, personal injury claims and public liability actions. Gerrit also has extensive experience with the National Credit Act, the Consumer Protection Act and the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act. Gerrit grew up in Bellville where he attended DF Malan High School. He furthered his studies at Stellenbosch University where he obtained his BA and LL.B degrees before completing his articles of clerkship at Marais Muller in Cape Town. Prior to joining the Van der Spuy family in 1997, Gerrit also practised as an associate at M.B Curle & Pienaar in Somerset West. Being an attorney is more than a career to Gerrit, it is his calling. He approaches every matter with dedication, quality of service, excellence and a wealth of experience. As passionate as Gerrit is about the law, he is about his family. You will often find him next to the sport’s field, tennis court or swimming pool cheering on his three children. Gerrit is also an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys camping and running and plans on trying his hand at sailing in the near future.
