Gerhard matriculated at Jan van Riebeeck High School in Cape Town in 1987. During his two years of National Service after matric Gerhard served as an infantry officer in the SADF. Gerhard graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in 1995 with B.A. LL.B. degrees. He gained extensive experience in criminal- and family law in pro-bono practice at the Legal Aid clinic in Stellenbosch and was admitted as an attorney in August 1997. Gerhard joined Miller Bosman Le Roux in 1998 and has been a director of the firm since 2001. He was admitted as a conveyancer in 2004 and has since dealt with a number of complex development schemes. He serves on several Body Corporates and regularly provides advice on sectional title issues. Gerhard’s additional specialities include labour-related matters, arbitrations and CCMA referrals. To this end he attended further courses at the University of Cape Town and the University of the Western Cape in labour law, mediation, arbitration and conciliation. Gerhard is involved in the community by, amongst others, participating in the parent association of his daughters’ school where he served as chairman for two years. He is currently a director and member of the Board of Somerset House School. Gerhard is an avid amateur cook and fly fisherman. He and his wife Marthie, a psychologist, have two children, Emilie and Stefan and a beagle, Oscar.
