About Greta

After completing my BA, LLB at the University of the Witwatersrand, I spent a few years in general legal practice in South Africa, rounding my experience in commercial matters, family law and litigation. I then went abroad to join my husband, living in London, England, travelling in Europe and moving to the United States in order to broaden my experience and horizons and to experience life outside South Africa. I lived for a number of years in New York City where I attended Columbia University, taking courses in communication, including international communication, and rearing my children. During that time, I had an opportunity to interact with a number of lawyers in different disciplines, including commercial, labour, litigation and immigration and I began preparing to enter the legal profession once more as my children were old enough. However, at that time, there were new developments in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was released and I returned with my family to Johannesburg to participate in the excitement of building a new South Africa. To this end, I opened my legal practice in 1994. Mediation was in its infancy at that time and I was particularly drawn to this method of dispute resolution as I saw it as a healthy, holistic, speedy and economical method of settling disputes. I am very committed to mediation, particularly in these difficult economic times. My practice has developed into mainly a personal law and family law practice, which I find to be a particularly exciting, dynamic and burgeoning branch of law, particularly in the field of surrogacy, same sex marriages, unmarried fathers’ rights, relocation, both nationally and internationally, Hague Convention matters and inter-country divorces, which continue to develop as technology transforms the world into a global village. In order to keep up with the constantly changing global legal developments, I take annual overseas trips to keep up with my international legal contacts and global family law developments. In my practice, I am committed to serving my clients on an individualised and cost effective basis, giving them the personal attention they deserve, no matter the size or complexity of the matter.
