Melissa practised Environmental Law at Cameron Cross Incorporated and was appointed as a Director of Cameron Cross in January 2012. Melissa joined Tabacks in 2013, where she was appointed as a Director. Melissa’s practice focuses on all aspects of Environmental Health and Safety Law, and she continues to assist clients within the mining, industrial and development sectors. Melissa represents clients in environmental litigation proceedings including Water Tribunal hearings. Melissa also advises clients on safety, health and environmental-legal risk and liability exposure and has managed various safety, health and environmental-legal compliance assessment projects undertaken in respect of key-account clients. Melissa further provides safety, health and environmental-legal training to clients within the mining and industrial sectors including environmental consultant companies. Melissa has gained valuable experience by working closely with the Head of Department, James Cross, and has approximately 18 years’ experience in the field of Environmental Health and Safety Law. Melissa has been recognised by her peers in the 2023 and 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers in South Africa for her high calibre work in Environmental Law. Engagements SHE-legal interpretation and opinion provided to companies operating within the development, mining and industrial sectors; Representing clients in regulatory compliance matters including responses to pre-compliance and compliance notices. Preparation of appeals in accordance with mining and environmental legislation, including Water Tribunal appeals. Representing clients in environmental litigation proceedings; Management of numerous safety, health and environmental-legal compliance assessment projects in respect of key-account clients.
